On the weekend after visiting my very talented friend who owns a boutique pastry business, I was inspired to create. I took some time to settle into the lounge with the intent to watch Netflix and a documentary associated with my other love…….cooking.

I find cooking very cathartic……my creativity can flow and the outcome is always rewarding and delicious!

I came upon Netflix Chef’s Table: Pizza. I thought “Pizza…well, ok, could be interesting” and decided to watch. I am so grateful I did.

Episode Two is Ann Kim. A Korean woman who fought societal barriers and family expectations to cook pizza. Her creations are amazing, her two Minneapolis restaurants are kicking goals and she won the James Beard Award that recognises exceptional talent and achievement in many areas of business as well as demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equality, community and sustainability.

On receiving this award, Ann Kim took the stage and went to the microphone and very early in her speech said “10 years ago, I said “F*&$ fear”. And the rest is history.

Clearly, there was more to her speech but this statement is so empowering.

My story is like this too – I left a lifelong career of being a Detective as it wasn’t feeding my unconscious motivators. I felt there was so much more I wanted to achieve. Policing in my time was a job for life……but not for me.

I resonate with Ann Kim as I too said “F*&$ fear”, stepped out into the corporate world and my upward journey of becoming a coach began. People questioned me, “will you make money”, “will you get any work”, “Is this a real job”.

Again, I said in my mind “F*&$ fear” and forged forward.

Today, I am the Director of Ardent Coaching as I would not succumb to my fears.

It’s a conscious decision to decide what your future looks like. No one is stuck in their job, their career…..in this era of work, many of us decide to change total direction.

In the beginning it’s like an line that isn't straight - when you start it’s going great and then there is a dip, a hiccup……you question every choice you made, every decision you made and fear creeps back in.

You have to fight it, focus on your goal, don’t let the fear demons get hold of you! We can all choose to be anything we wish, choice has always been our decision but fear creeps in. Stand tall, say “F*&$ fear” and motor on towards your goals.
